U.S. customs in 2026
Do not rely on old advice that every shipment under $800 is automatically duty-free.
Duty-free de minimis treatment remains suspended for covered shipments.
Import treatment depends on current U.S. rules, the product, declared value, country of origin, and entry method.
Product regulation
Some products can involve CPSC requirements, battery transport rules, FDA-related rules, or other agency requirements.
Regulated categories should be checked before purchase.
Accurate declarations matter
Use specific descriptions such as:
Do not intentionally undervalue the shipment.
- used camera body
- cotton jacket
- plastic collectible figure
- vinyl record
