Overview
Japan domestic shipping is the cost of moving the item from the Japanese seller or store to the JPS warehouse.
It is separate from international shipping.
That distinction matters because a listing that looks cheaper can become more expensive once domestic delivery is added.

Where domestic shipping appears
Depending on the source, domestic shipping may be:
JPS passes through the seller’s actual Japan domestic shipping charge.
- included in the item price
- charged separately
- calculated at checkout
- based on destination region
- based on size or weight
- determined by the seller after purchase
Seller-paid vs. buyer-paid shipping
Useful wording includes:
For buyer-paid shipping, check the listing before purchase.
- 送料込み — shipping included
- 送料別 — shipping separate
- 着払い — freight collect
Store shipping can depend on order value
Retail stores may offer:
Do not assume every order from the same store has the same delivery charge.
- flat-rate domestic shipping
- free shipping above a threshold
- separate fees for remote areas
- separate fees for oversized products
Oversized domestic freight can change the economics
This matters especially for:
A cheap item with expensive Japan-side freight may not be the best buy.
- fishing rods
- large figures
- furniture
- audio equipment
- bicycles
- large hobby items
Example
Suppose:
Item A:
Item B:
Item B is actually ¥700 cheaper before the JPS proxy fee.
Compare the Japan-side total, not only the listing price.
- item price: ¥6,500
- domestic shipping: ¥1,200
- item price: ¥7,000
- domestic shipping: ¥0
JPS purchase-stage calculation
At purchase:
Item price + actual Japan domestic shipping + ¥300 JPS proxy fee per purchase request
International shipping is handled later.
Why domestic and international shipping are separated
Before the item arrives at JPS, the warehouse does not yet know the final outbound parcel:
That is why JPS uses a two-stage payment structure.
- actual packed weight
- dimensions
- consolidation plan
- shipping method
