Overview
Japan has a strong market for spinning reels, baitcasting reels, rods, lures, hooks, tackle, and accessories.
Fishing gear requires more specification checking than many general consumer products.

Reels: identify the exact model
Confirm manufacturer, model, reel size, gear ratio, left/right handle, spool type, and year or revision.
The same product family may have multiple gear ratios and spool configurations.
Used reel condition
Look for smoothness, handle play, spool damage, drag condition, corrosion, saltwater exposure, and abnormal noise.
Useful terms:
Seller descriptions are not professional mechanical inspections.
- ゴリ感 — rough/geary feel
- シャリ感 — gritty feel
- サビ — rust
- 傷 — scratches
- 動作良好 — seller claims good operation
Rods: check length and section count
Confirm total length, folded/transport length, number of sections, power/action, lure weight, and line rating.
Transport length is especially important for international shipping.
Oversized shipping
Fishing rods can be lightweight but long.
That creates problems with carrier length limits, oversized surcharges, and available shipping methods.
Check transport length before purchase.
Rod condition
Look for guide damage, cracks, repaired sections, blank damage, ferrule wear, missing tip, and corrosion.
Lures and tackle
Small tackle usually consolidates well.
Check hook condition, rust, sealed vs. used condition, exact size/color, and quantity.
Hooks and sharp items should be packed safely.
Saltwater corrosion
For used saltwater equipment, inspect screws, spool, handle, line roller, frame, and guides.
Salt exposure can create corrosion even when the exterior still looks clean.

Shipping strategy
Small reels and tackle can combine efficiently.
Long rods may need separate shipment.
