This lightweight flywheel, specially tuned for the Jimny [JB64W], delivers enjoyable gear changes and smooth acceleration. ■Flywheel Function: The flywheel is attached to the end of the engine's crankshaft and stores the engine's rotational energy through its own weight. It stabilizes engine rotation and suppresses sudden torque fluctuations, ensuring drivability. The outer periphery of the flywheel is fitted with a gear that engages with the starter when starting the engine. ■Lightweight: Lightening the flywheel's weight reduces the moment of inertia, resulting in better throttle response and a sharper RPM increase for a more agile ride. ■Smooth Shifting: A lightweight flywheel reduces inertia (the force that keeps it rotating), reducing the wait time for synchronization during gear changes, allowing for smoother shifts between gears. This also reduces the strain on the synchronization mechanism. ■Machine-Made from Chrome-Molybdenum Steel: Chrome-molybdenum steel, with its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, toughness, and heat resistance, ensures the necessary strength even with the thinner wall required for weight reduction. ■Strength Simulation: Weight reduction was achieved through analysis that took into account strength and flywheel mass position, as well as actual vehicle testing. Effective weight reduction was achieved while maintaining the necessary strength. ■Tuning specifically for the Jimny [JB64W]: For the Jimny, we focused on the benefits of smoother gear changes. By quickly completing upshifts during acceleration, acceleration while disengaging the clutch and engine RPMs do not drop unnecessarily when engaging the clutch, reducing acceleration sluggishness. Even in situations where you are forced to downshift on a steep gradient, you can complete the gear change and begin accelerating before your vehicle speed drops.
