Product Description: Sub-zero treatment, also known as deep freezing, involves cooling to temperatures below 0°C. Quenched steel contains a small amount (10-30%) of retained austenite. This austenite not only causes distortion and cracking, but also reduces hardness. Therefore, it is necessary to artificially convert the material to martensite by cooling it to temperatures below 0°C. Sub-zero treatment is one method for this. Cryogens include dry ice, carbon dioxide, and liquid nitrogen. Dry ice and alcohol (either methyl or ethyl) can cool the product to approximately -80°C, carbon dioxide to -130°C, and liquid nitrogen to -196°C. Subzero temperatures up to -80°C are called standard subzero, while temperatures below -130°C are called ultra-subzero. Lower temperatures are more effective for improving wear resistance. The treatment time is approximately 30 minutes after reaching the required temperature. After holding, air cooling is acceptable, but immersion in water or hot water is preferred. This is called uphill quenching. After treatment, a specified tempering process is required.
